Oranmore – Maree – Clarinbridge are friendly progressive communities with an emphasis on family, sports and community activities with a strong voluntary spirit.
Football, Hurling, Soccer, GAA, FAI, Basketball, Badminton, Sailing, Tennis are all clubs that are run voluntarily locally.
The population in the area has increase more than 10 fold in the last decade, however, the village atmosphere still remains and continues to be a great attraction for new people moving in. With a diverse population, consisting of 25% international residents, there are 2000 school-goers in Oranmore alone with 3 national schools and a well-established Secondary School – Calasanctius College.
Oranmore Swans have national celebrity status since June 2015 as being the first swans known to nest on a man-made raft successfully in an estuary. A local voluntary conservation group undertook this project and the swans laid 9 eggs, five of which hatched successfully. There was a sad story of year after year when the same swan couple laid eggs on the mill race in the estuary beside the bridge and when high tide arrived, the eggs were sadly submerged and never survived. Families old and young gather often to admire the beautiful swans and their cygnets and watch their progress. The local facilities include the Children’s playgrounds, Community Centres, Parish Hall, Tearmuinn Mhuire, Schools, Library, Astro-turf pitches, playing pitches, as well as tennis courts in Maree.
Local groups undertaking voluntary projects with great enthusiasm are Tidy Towns, Oranmore Development Association, Heritage Group and Twinning.
Renville Park offers picnic facilities, running and walking area, family friendly park, forestry and a fantastic historical walled-in playground.
Parking is free of charge in our area. Onstreet parking, supermarket car parks (Supervalu & Aldi) as well as underground car parks at Lidl and Tesco. Local hotels also have large car parks.
